Hello there...Can't sleep so I thought I would do a short blog

Well I went back to work today after being sick most of last week and missing about two and a half days. It was super busy, I worked 11 1/2 hours and when I came home I just crashed. So of course I wake up at 930pm and can't go back to sleep. Imagine that. That's my life.

Well on to what I wanted to post about. Apparently, if you are so inclined, you can now have an underwater grave site. Here's a blurb from the website https://www.nmreef.com/?b=1

"For over three decades, the focus of the Neptune Society has always been on cremation and giving our members peace of mind. What's more, cremation and placement in the Neptune Reef is a non-polluting process that consumes no above-ground real estate while reducing stress on other fragile marine reefs which actively support the continuation of life and aliveness on our planet. Done properly, this marine habitat enables life to thrive in the ocean. What better way to give back to the environment and our planet than this environmentally friendly way to replenish the coral growth.

The Neptune Memorial Reef is the largest man-made reef ever conceived. This reef serves many purposes from being a training ground for students of marine biology to an underwater theme park that is complete with no admission charge for all scuba divers. The reef is located 3.25 miles east of Key Biscayne in Miami and it's 16 acres of open water diving. We founded the reef project with the intent that it should be an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional funeral arrangements and in the keeping with many of our clients philosophies."

Well I am not sure I agree with this or disagree with it. I don't really know yet my feelings on it. But I am thinking I am leaning more towards not agreeing with it. I am not a spiritual person so death and all the rituals that go with it, do not mean that much to me. I mean, come on, don't we as a species take up enough space on this planet? Why do we have to make our presence SO known? I am all for cremation, I think it would be better if we were all cremated, but I don't understand why we still have to have a site to house those ashes. When I die, I would just like someone to spread my ashes out over a piece of land or in the ocean. I know you are not aloud to do this, at least I think there is a law against it, but come on, how would anyone know? I'm going to be dead, I won't care where you put my ashes!
On the other hand, the artifical reef part is a very good idea, seeing how so many reefs are being destroyed. So on one hand I agree and on the other I don't. Go figure, thats me.
If you have a opinion or would just like to chat drop me a line. Okay I am off now to bed again to try and get a couple more hours in. Later gators! Pictures are courtesy of the website and are not mine.

Well that's an interesting concept. Okay some people might like to be buried in the sea. Seaman have their ashes scattered out at sea. Reefs even artificial ones have their benefits. Marine Reserves more so. NZ was the first country in the world to start one and that's at Goat Island. The marine life there is incredible go outside it..nothing. I'll be adding in more marine links to my blog. I live just ten minutes from the coast. We're lucky to have it so near.

Take care hope you are better

PS You can do that Dive Course. Hang in there.

Hello Liz!
Thanks for responding! I believe it could have its benefits (as a artifical reef) but I also have my doubts.
Wow, ten minutes from the coast? That is great! I wish I was just ten minutes from the coast. I go to Florida about every other year on vacation so I get my fix. Eventually I will move closer to finish my schooling.
My new scuba class starts in Jan. 2009 so I am crossing my fingers, and even my toes, that I do better!
Hugs
